Athens-Clarke County
must be referred by their local Action Office.

 

 

 

Ark Policies

NEIGHBOR MUST PROVIDE:  Verification of all aspects of the individual’s situation (including utility bills, statement from landlord, employer’s verification, pay stubs, separation notices, police reports, medical statements, etc.)  Bill must be in the name of the neighbor or spouse.

MAY  help with:

 --rent and utilities, etc.

  • when recent loss of income was through no fault or decision of the individual
    at the loss of a temporary job (maximum $50 once a year) – Clarke County Only

  • when neighbor had unexpected necessary expense (such as car or home repair, medicine, etc.) (maximum $50 once a year)

  • ending unemployment will be based on tier eligibility   (maximum $50) – Clarke County  only

  • maternity leave (maximum $50) – Clarke County only

  • for anyone residing in Athens-Clarke County who is 55 or older – Noah Fund $100 once a year

  • when labor department appeal for firing is won

--prescription medicine

  • for acute illnesses/antibiotics (does not include the $4 or free brands at Kroger/Publix/Target)

  • other than hospital referrals, Clarke County residents only

--transportation

  • when referred from other agencies for out of town placement (only one timE)

  • for gas for cancer treatment at ARMC

  • for bus tickets for Food Bank recipients

--emergency dental – for Clarke County Residents Only – when in pain

  • for initial visit

  • for extraction

  • one time only

CANNOT help with:

 --deposits for rent or utilities

  •  initial start up funds for individual moving to Clarke County or within Clarke County

 --bills

  • from previous locations

  • that were cut off in the spring that need to be turned on in the fall (gas)

  • that are non-essential:  cable, credit cards, loans etc.

  • for phone, except when a doctor specifies medical necessity

--medication

  • for pain

  • when a prescription from the emergency room is over 48 hours old (except for those received on a Friday or Saturday)

 

CANNOT help when:

  • the bill is in a minor child’s  name

  • the bill is in another person’s name (other than spouse) who is not present

  • the loss of income is due to:

loss of job due to poor attendance/tardiness/policy violation
being charged with a criminal act
DFCS sanction
posting bail
any reason that cannot be verified
voluntary quit for any reason
