In June 2024, Georgia state regulators approved a
12% rate increase for utility customers, which added almost $200 to the average power bill each year.
With the rising summer temperatures, this increase has had a disproportionate impact on disadvantaged groups, such as seniors, disabled residents, and those living paycheck to paycheck. In addition to the increase in power costs, our neighbors are also experiencing a 22% increase in rent costs. With the recent rises in food and rent costs, the utility rate hike has put greater stress on the finances for our neighbors. Our low-income neighbors are now facing the troubling realty of both utility disconnection and eviction. Your support will allow us to continue to provide housing assistance while also providing emergency utility assistance to our neighbors to prevent utility disconnection.
