Our volunteers help The Ark provide hope to our neighbors by allowing us to assist our neighbors in their particular times of need. We would not be able to provide all of our services without the help of our dedicated volunteers who give their time, energy, and contribute to making our organization a success.
"What does volunteering at The Ark look like?"
There are two positions of an Ark volunteer:
1. Interviewer:
Conducts one on one interview with neighbors on an appointment basis. Interviewers gather information regarding the neighbor’s current financial situation and work with the Director to make decisions regarding the eligibility for financial assistance.
2. Intake :
Answers incoming phone calls, writes all food bank referrals and conducts intake paperwork on all neighbors.
"How often can I volunteer?"
Volunteers typically come once a week, bi-weekly, or act as a substitute, but we are open to any schedule that works best for you!
We currently do not accept court ordered community service.
Get Involved by becoming a Volunteer!
You too can join us in making a difference in the lives of our neighbors
Volunteer of the Month:
Deniella Tenenbaum
This month, we're celebrating Deniella's one-year anniversary with us! She joined our volunteer team in September 2024 after hearing about The Ark through a financial planning class at UGA with Dr. Goetz. For Deniella, who just earned her bachelor's in financial planning and is now pursuing a master's in behavioral financial planning, it was "the perfect match."
When asked about her experience, Deniella shared that her favorite part is connecting with people she wouldn't normally meet. "I really enjoy connecting with members of the community, not just fellow students or faculty and staff at UGA." She's found the conversations to be incredibly impactful, stating, "Every time I interview a neighbor, I learn something new about their unique everyday struggles with money. These conversations have really opened my perspective and helped me build empathy for people who face challenges that I haven’t personally experienced.”
As she looks ahead to a career in wealth management, Deniella wants to share a message with the community: "I encourage everyone to volunteer in some capacity. It’s rewarding because it allows you to give back, build connections, and gain new perspectives that can shape how you see the world."
