Cannon Rogers, from Northwest Georgia,   infuses Southern rock with witty, cultural observations in his music that creates a unique sound for the Athens scene. Drawing on five years of touring as a guitarist and pedal steel player for acts like Susto and Waylon Wyatt, his debut collection, Hydroponic Southern Gothic, explores the post-modern South through a lens shaped equally by Lucinda Williams and Flannery O’Connor. The tracks blend soaring, gritty guitars and banjos with contemplative lyrics tackling the state of modern America and the role of art within it. Ultimately, Rogers draws inspiration from legendary Georgia eccentrics, from folk artist Rev. Howard Finster to rockers Drivin N Cryin, to build an aesthetic that nods to nostalgia while creating a sound that is uniquely his own.
